…Trail of Dead Launches Own Label
…And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead has announced the launch of their very own record label, Richter Scale Records, a Justice Records partnership that'll be distributed by Fontana/Universal. The imprint's first release will be the band's first independent record since they joined Interscope's roster in 2002 and sold 124,000 copies of Source Tags & Codes. (Merge and Trance Syndicate released the band's first two full-lengths.)"[Our new deal will allow us] to seek the creative freedom envisioned by the founding fathers of our great nation," frontman Conrad Keely said in a statement, "immune from the tyranny of the corporate ogre."
Trail's new effort—"a more anthemic record" according to the band's publicist—was co-produced by Chris "Frenchie" Smith and longtime collaborator Mike McCarthy. It'll be out in January of 2009.
