"Godfather" Collection Gets Coppola Restoration

Paramount Home Entertainment will issue a restored, revamped version of the Godfather collection on September 23. Nearly three decades after the initial theatrical release of the original, The Godfather Collection: The Coppola Restoration will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Director Francis Ford Coppola personally oversaw the digital frame-by-frame restoration of the films, an arduous task which took over a year to complete. This edition includes the same bonus material from the original box set in addition to new features. The extras include a feature on the restoration process as well as "The Masterpiece That Almost Wasn't," which includes interviews with cast and admirers of the film. Two additional featurettes, "...when the shooting stopped" and "Godfather World" look at the film's cultural impact in the modern era. Each film includes Coppola commentary as well.

The films will be available individually or as a five disc set for diehard collectors who can't get enough of la cosa nostra.
