In French biopic
Vincent Cassel is Public Enemy No. 1
Vincent Cassel has been cast as infamous French criminal Jacques Mesrine in Senator Entertainment's upcoming two-part biopic Public Enemy No. 1.While many French actors clamored to portray Mesrine on the big screen, Cassel shepherded the project for seven years alongside producer Thomas Langmann and eventually garnered the role. Mesrine was a master of disguise, notorious for robbing banks, mostly in France. He had a brief crime stint in both Canada and the United States before his eventual assassination at the hands of French police in 1979.
The film has a budget of $80 million dollars and will have two separate parts. Senator hopes to release the first part in the United States by the end of the year, with the second part hitting theaters next year. Other cast members include Gérard Depardieu and Ludivine Sagnier.
