For a first-look deal
John Malkovich and Mandate Join Forces
Actor John Malkovich and his Mr. Mudd production company have joined forces with Mandate Pictures for a two year first-look deal where the companies will produce at least one film per year together. The companies worked together on the smash hit Juno, where Malkovich served as an executive producer. The first project that falls under the deal is the forthcoming noir drama Broken City, which centers on a private investigator who ends up in the middle of corrupt politics and a mayoral election. A cast and a director will be scouted in the fall.
Mr. Mudd was formed by Malkovich back in 1998 alongside some of his Steppenwolf Theater Company colleagues. Malkovich has remained largely behind the scenes in the past few years, despite a prolific onscreen career in the early '90s.
