Tom Cruise a "Top Gun" Again?

Top Gun, the 1986 popcorn flick about a training school for Navy fighter pilots, made Tom Cruise a superstar early in his career. It's no wonder the actor is considering reprising his role as cocky pilot Pete "Maverick" Mitchell.

Word is that producers won't move forward with a Top Gun sequel unless Cruise commits to star in the film. The sequel's plot would pick up 20 years later, with Maverick as an instructor at the famed Top Gun flight academy that he graduated from. This time the gender roles would be reversed, with Maverick dealing with an arrogant female student who reminds him of himself when he was in her position.

Sources did not indicate how heavily the producers and Cruise are involved in discussions or how close they are to an agreement.
