    Darren Aronofsky to Direct "Robocop"

Director Darren Aronofsky has officially signed on to direct the big budget remake of Robocop for MGM. David Self, who was a screenwriter on Road to Perdition, will write the script for the film, which resurrects the 1987 story of a Detroit cop who is reincarnated as a cyborg who is "part man, part machine, all cop."

The producers plan to release the film in 2010 and will keep the original's futuristic, violent tone. Robocop has retained impressive relevance in pop culture over the years, spawning two sequels, a TV series, and a few video games. Rumor has it that the filmmakers will be working with a $100 million budget in order to utilize the latest technology to create Robocop, Version 2.0. Aronofsky is known for his visually breathtaking films, such as The Fountain and Requiem for a Dream.
