Chris de Burgh has announced plans to play a concert alongside an Iranian band (Arian) in Tehran this November. The show will be the first live Islamic Republic collaboration between a Western singer (de Burgh is Irish) and Iranian pop band since the 1979 revolution.
"The concert is scheduled to be held in the last week of November at Azadi Indoor Stadium in Tehran which seats 12,000 people," Majid Roqani, the head of public relations at Taraneh Sharqi Cultural and Artistic Company, said in a statement.
Most Western pop songs are banned from Iranian radio stations, although some instrumental versions make it past the censors. Black market versions of Western records are also cut by Iranian bands on occasion.
