Morgan Freeman Recovering

Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman was injured in a car crash on Sunday just before midnight. The accident occurred on a rural road in the Mississippi Delta where he owns a home with his wife. The actor was listed in serious condition yesterday after having sustained a broken arm, a broken elbow, and some minor shoulder damage in the accident, but remains in good spirits, according to his publicist Donna Lee.

Freeman and an unnamed female companion were driving on a two-lane highway when the vehicle ran off the side of the road and flipped several times. Attending rescuers had to use the jaws of life to extract the actor and his passenger from the car. Freeman was conscious, lucid, and speaking during the extraction, even making jokes to gawkers who were on the scene and taking pictures on their cell phone cameras, saying, "No freebies!" He was airlifted to a Memphis hospital. Early reports speculated that Freeman may have fallen asleep at the wheel, but those claims have not been substantiated at press time.
