Matthew McConaughey to Plant Son's Placenta

Actor-cum-surfer Matthew McConaughey has announced that he will plant the placenta of his newborn son Levi, who arrived in July, in an orchard. The actor retained the baby's afterbirth and hopes to use it to fertilize land in a ritual that many tribal cultures have used throughout the years.

In an interview with CNN, the actor said that the plan is for the placenta to yield fruit where it is buried. While such an act seems downright strange in Western cultures, McConaughey was happy to shed light on the event and educate viewers about the process. He recounted a story about a placenta tree that he encountered off a river in Australia and told the news network about witnessing the tree in all its splendor, saying that "all the placentas of all that tribe, all [members of] that clan, whatever aboriginal tribe that was, all the placentas went under that one tree and it was this huge behemoth of just health and strength."
