"40-Year-Old Virgin" Star Shelley Malil Arrested For Attempted Murder

Actor Shelley Malil, who appreared most recently as Haziz, one of the electronics store employees in The 40-Year-Old Virgin, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Authorities arrested the 43-year-old Malil, a resident of Sherman Oaks, California, after an incident that left his former girlfriend, who has not been identified by name, in critical condition with 20 stab wounds as well as cuts to her face. Malil is being held on $2 million bail.

Cops arrested Malil on Monday night as he exited an Amtrak train in Oceanside. He was meeting with his attorney and planned to turn himself in when he was apprehended, according to Lt. Phil Brust of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. Malil has been booked on suspicion of attempted murder, mayhem, burglary, and is being detained at the Vista Detention Center. His arraignment was scheduled for 8:00 AM this morning.

No motive for the attack was given, although Brust indicated that the couple had been in a relationship that recently ended. Malil's attorney and reps have not yet issued any comments on the matter. The victim is currently in a local hospital. There were also two sleeping children present in the home during the the time of the attack.
