New "Harry Potter" Film Pushed Back to 2009

Harry Potter-o-philes just got hit with some not-so-great news. Warner Brothers has pushed the release of the eagerly anticipated Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince back to July 17, 2009. The film's intended release date had been November 11, 2008, and trailers for the film have been running in theaters this summer.

Studio president Alan Horn said that the film is being moved as result of the recent writer's strike, which left the studio without many tent pole releases for the height of the summer 2009 season. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince translates the sixth book in J.K. Rowling's immensely popular series and will fill the gap as a major release for the studio next summer. The last Potter film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, was released in July 2007 and was the second most popular film in the franchise after the original.

Warner Brothers maintains that it will release the two movie adapation of Rowling's final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, as planned, with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, Part One in November 2009 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, Part Two after that.
