Comic book adaptation stirs Cruise
Tom Cruise, Sam Raimi Are "Sleepers"
Tom Cruise can't stay out of the news lately. The actor and famed director Sam Raimi, who has been trafficking in the comic book realm lately, namely with the Spider-Man franchise, have set up Sleeper for development at Warner Brothers. Sleeper is based on a DC Comics/Wildstorm Comic that ran from 2003 through 2005 and featured the character Holden Carver, who fuses with an alien artifact which inflicts him with the ability to store pain and pass it on through skin contact. Carver hates his "powers" and wishes to be rid of them, even after he is placed undercover in a criminal agency.Cruise is loosely attached to star in the film, with Raimi planning to take a producer role through his Star Road Entertainment shingle. Sleeper is considered to have excellent franchise potential for the studio. As of press time, a screenplay writer and a director have yet to be secured.
