    F. Gary Gray May Tackle Julius Caesar

Director F. Gary Gray may go up against Julius Caesar, as Mandalay Pictures has acquired the rights to Julius, a re-imagining of William Shakspeare's essential play. Gray, who last lensed 2005's Be Cool, is attached to direct this modern retelling of the classic Caesar story.

The film is based on a graphic novel penned by Antony Johnston for Oni Press. Closed on Mondays Entertainment, the production arm of Oni Press, will produce the film in conjunction with Oni's Peter Schwerin and Joe Nozemack. No production dates have been set at press time.

In other Mandalay news, the company is currently developing a remake of The Birds, with Naomi Watts set to star as the heroine.
