Won't return to Freddy Krueger role in remake
Robert Englund Moving Out of Elm Street
Gasp! It can't be true. But sadly, it is. Robert Englund, the man who helped make the nefarious Freddy Krueger a slasher film icon in the 1980s, has gone on record saying he will not be returning to the dream-haunting, facially-scarred role that made him a star. Platinum Dunes, the production shingle run by Michael Bay, is remaking A Nightmare on Elm Street just in time for the film's 25th anniversary.Englund has gone on record with www.hollywoodnews.com to say that he "doubts" he'll be in the film since he was in the original, and suspects that the studio will want to take advantage of state-of-the-art special effects in order to exploit the storyline's dream element. Englund also said that he hopes Freddy won't resemble him and that a new actor should be able to inhabit the role and make it his own, with new mannerisms and style.
