Warner China Remakes Cellular
The 2004-released New Line Cinema film Cellular, starring Kim Basinger as a woman on the other end of a cell phone during a kidnapping, wasn't exactly a huge smash in the United States. Regardless of that fact, Warner China Film HG, which is a venture between Warner Brothers, China Film Group, and Hengdian Group, have teamed up to release a remake of the film, called Connected, on September 25.In Connected, the film's setting is Hong Kong and the cast is all Chinese-speaking actors, billed as a Chinese remake of a Hollywood film. The reverse scenario—Americans remaking Asian films, namely horror pictures—is common in today's cinematic landscape. Benny Chan directed the remake and made the picture much more action-packed, adding things like flying cars and more human combat into the movie, as these are popular elements in Pacific Rim films.
