David Bowie Curates Retrospective CD

David Bowie's iSELECT:BOWIE compilation—12 career-spanning cuts and two exclusive jams originally bundled with the Daily Mail in June—is due out through Virgin/EMI on October 14. Mr. Stardust himself hand-selected all of the songs, contributed liner notes and even remastered or re-recorded any tracks that needed a little tweaking.

For instance, "Lady Grinning Soul" (from 1973's Aladdin Sane album) comes with the following tidbit: "It was written for a wonderful young girl whom I've not seen for more than 30 years. When I hear this song she's still in her 20s, of course. A song will put you tantalizingly close to the past, so close that you can almost reach out and touch it. The sound of ghosts again."
