Penelope Cruz and Pedro Almodovar to Embrace Again
Penelope Cruz and director Pedro Almodovar, who enjoyed both critical and commercial success when they worked together on the Spanish-language Volver, have reteamed for Broken Embraces. Sony Pictures Classics has obtained the film's North American rights. The film, somewhat of a thriller which centers on a four person love story, is being shot on location in Madrid and the Canary Islands in the American film noir style that was hugely popular in the 1950s. Almodovar has said that the shadowy technique he is using to shoot the film was inspired by migraines that increased his light sensitivity. Blanca Portillo, who also had a role in Volver, is in the cast as well.
Broken Embraces will be the tenth film that Almodovar has done for SPC, a specialty arm of Sony.
