Jude Law, Rachel McAdams Get Their Sleuth On
Jude Law has completed negotiations to play the sidekick Watson in Sherlock Holmes, the forthcoming film about the famed sleuth of the same name. Guy Ritchie is directing, with Robert Downey Jr. committed to playing a looser, more adventurous version of Holmes. Rachel McAdams will play Irene Adler, the mysterious love interest of Holmes. The character of Adler appeared in only one of the Holmes' novels, 1891's A Scandal in Bohemia. However, the character and actress would be available for any possible sequels should the film be a success.Production on the film begins next month in London, and there is a 2010 release date attached. Law is expected to fully finalize the deal shortly. The lead villain Blackwood has just been cast, with Mark Strong accepting the role.
