Hilary Swank is Betty Anne Waters

Two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank has signed on to star in Betty Anne Waters, a human interest drama about a single mother and high school dropout who puts herself through law school while raising her kids. The character also waits tables in order to free her brother Kenneth, who was wrongly accused and convicted of a murder he did not commit.

Omega Entertainment will produce and distribute the film on the worldwide scale, and Tony Goldwyn will direct. The film will begin shooting in Michigan come January. Swank, who recently recovered from minor surgery to remove a benign growth, will also take an executive producer role on the film. Naomi Watts was originally attached to the film when it was set up at Working Title Pictures, but the project went nowhere before eventually being picked up by Omega via independent financing means.
