Don Cheadle Replacing Terrence Howard

In a surprise move, Don Cheadle is replacing Terrence Howard in Marvel Studios' Iron Man 2, the sequel to last summer's blockbuster smash.

In the original Iron Man, Howard played Jim Rhodes, the alter ego of armor-sporting hero War Machine. Rhodes is also the best friend of Iron Man's alter ego Tony Stark and is expected to play a large part in the sequel. Marvel did not issue any comment about the situation, but insiders say that negotiations with Howard fell through over financial issues, among other reasons. As a result, the studio decided to take the role of Rhodes in another direction and approached Cheadle.

Justin Theroux remains hard at work on the film's screenplay. The film already has an April 2010 release date.
