Photo Recap: Tegan and Sara/Girl In A Coma - The Music Box @ Fonda - Los Angeles, CA

It wouldn’t have seemed strikingly out of place for Tegan and Sara to break into a rundown of "Who's On First" during their Saturday set at the Henry Fonda this past weekend. Between emotive blasts of indie pop catharsis, the audience was treated to comedic interludes from the Canadian twins as they traded banter about America's fiscal crisis and Proposition 8 amongst other witticisms, even stopping to hug it out in a moment of sisterly love.

City and Colour and Girl in a Coma set the stage for the night's antics, with the latter laying down an especially impressive set. The San Anotonia, TX trio has built a healthy following, due in part to their raucous live shows and journeyman touring schedule. Watching singer Nina Diaz lay into songs like "Clumsy Sky" and "Their Cell," it was easy to see how they caught the attention of industry vets like label boss Joan Jett and former touring partner Morrissey. The sold-out crowd packed in pretty early, so while many of the audience members might not have been familiar with the group before the show, they probably earned themselves more than a few converts.

By the time Tegan and Sara hit the stage, there was a pulse of electricity running through the crowd. The band had sold out four nights in the row—no doubt drawing repeat fans—and on this third night of shows they seemed totally loose and appropriately appreciative. Songs like "So Jealous" and "Back In Your Head" sounded enormous, but exceedingly crisp as they washed out over the venue. With a pre-announced encore in tow, the two played an extended set that flew by, spiced up with all the laughs and guest turns from Dallas Green and Matt Sharp. In a setting that sees its fair share of great musical acts, this was a great performance that surely left a mark on the venue's spirit.
