First foray into action since Alien
Ridley Scott Goes to War
Director Ridley Scott made his name with his back to back, sci fi action classics Blade Runner and Alien. He will return to the genre that brought him his greatest success for the first time in years by directing The Forever War for Fox 2000. Scott had intended to direct The Forever War years ago, but the spec has been tied up in rights issues and complications for more than 20 years. The film is based on Joe Haldeman's 1974 novel, which centers on a soldier who returns home to a planet he no longer recognizes after spending a few months battling an enemy in deep space. A miniseries based on the book was planned by the Sci Fi Channel but never got off the ground. After becoming reinterested in the project, Scott spent six months securing the rights. A writer will be hired to adapt the screenplay shortly.
