After three massively successful years, BBC Electric Proms still remains the UK's foremost, trend-setting music festival. Every year, festival organizers push the diverse palette of artists to debut new music and new interpretations of crowd favorites for Electric Proms. 2008 proved no different. Taking place in London and Liverpool from Wednesday October 22nd through Sunday October 26th, Electric Proms left fans with more than a few memorable moments.
After another benchmark year, Oasis closed out the festivities at Roundhouse with a poignant and rapturous display, collaborating with the Crouch End Festival Chorus. Noel Gallagher and Co. once again took fans on a ride, simultaneously preserving the progressive spirit inherent in Electric Proms. However, Oasis wasn't the only highlight. Goldfrapp concocted otherworldly electro-pop on stage, while Santogold brought the house down with her eerie tripped-out electro-punk assault. Critical darlings The Streets seamlessly bridged the gap between hip hop and brit-pop, while Keane effectively channeled Radiohead's dreamy swoon. Still a master of the stage, Burt Bacharach also dazzled audiences with selections from his platter of hits. Burt even collaborated with the BBC Concert Orchestra, breathing new life into classics.
Previous years have featured everyone from The Who and James Brown to Sigur Ros and Chemical Brothers, however, this year's lineup was just as eclectic and vibrant. If you missed the festivities, check out the official web site for highlight videos, photos and much more.
Long live Electric Proms!
