    Award-winning playwright to pen script

Spider-Man 4 Goes the Pulitzer Route

The producers of Spider-Man 4 have hired David Lindsay-Abaire, a Pulitzer-Prize winning playwright, to write the film's script. Lindsay-Abaire won the prestigious Prize in 2007 for the drama Rabbit Hole. The stage version of the show, which featured Cynthia Nixon and Tyne Daly, cleaned up on Broadway, winning four Tonys, including the award for Best Play.

Columbia is keeping all pertinent details about the film's plot under lock and key. Tobey Maguire will reprise his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Kirsten Dunst is expected to return to her role as love interest Mary Jane. Sam Raimi has been confirmed to direct, as well.

A previous draft of Spider-Man 4 was written by James Vanderbilt but that version won't be used. Word is that Columbia wants this edition of the franchise to focus more on the character development.
