Chris Rock, Screen Gems Remaking Death
Chris Rock is partnering up with Screen Gems and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment to remake the little seen yet critically praised cheeky British comedy, Death at a Funeral. The Rock version will be an urbanized take on the original. Frank Oz directed the first film, which also featured Matthew MacFayden. The original was released in 2007.Rock co-wrote the script and will star in and produce the film, which is a comedy of errors that takes place at a funeral, complete with corpse mix ups, indecent exposure and family blow ups, all of which provide the source for the laughs. The original's English cast will be switched out for a mainly African-American ensemble. A director is currently being sought, with pre-production scheduled for the forthcoming spring.
