America Ferrera's American Tragedy

America Ferrera and Melissa Leo will join forces in American Tragic, a drama about the post-Iraq war effect. The film will be produced by Maya Entertainment, a burgeoning Latino film banner. Ryan Piers Williams will direct from the screenplay he penned himself.

The young powerhouse Ferrara will star in and executive produce the film through her Take Fountain shingle. The story centers on a young soldier, portrayed by Ryan O'Nan, who experiences adjustment difficulties when he returns home to his small town digs after his tour of duty in the Middle East. He embarks on a cross-country road trip in order to find himself, leaving his wife (Ferrera), his mother (Leo) and his sister, played by June Diane Raphael, in his wake. Shooting begins in New Mexico in February.
