Director Guillermo del Toro and actors Jeffrey Tambor and Selma Blair talk about entering epic new comic book territory

    Interviews: Hellboy II

Standing on stage at a party for the Blu-Ray DVD launch of Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, director Guillermo del Toro joked, "This is my inaugural speech," a comment which holds some weight. An auteur with the foresight to take some serious chances, technically and aesthetically, del Toro may as well be President-elect of underground cinema. Crafting films such as Pan's Labyrinth and the first Hellboy, he's forged a style all his own. With Hellboy 2, he took everything one step further, especially on the DVD and Blu-Ray release. "Interactive" doesn't even begin to describe this digital package. It's loaded with a plethora of behind-the-scenes features, and it even has a tool that allows fans to pull frames from the film and create their own Hellboy comic.

In order to celebrate the DVD's release, Universal transformed Club Eleven in Hollywood into a scene right out of Hellboy 2. It resembled the movie's marketplace sequence, with creatures roaming around by the hors d'oeuvres and a haze of smoke swirling around the dance floor. While there, ARTISTdirect.com got a chance to talk to Del Toro and actors Jeffrey Tambor and Selma Blair about Blu-Ray and much more.
