Meryl Streep Gets Catty
Meryl Streep will star in Dewey, a fact-based film that looks at the impact a stray kitten has on the small town of Spencer, Iowa. New Line will release the film, having won a bidding war with several other studios that were interested in making the movie. The film is adapted from Vicki Myron's touching, feel-good book, Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World. Streep will play the author, a librarian who watched how the cat "grew" on the local townsfolk once he interacted with them after becaming the library's official mascot. The cat huddled in the library after slipping through the return book slot on a cold night and never left.
