DreamWorks Launches Kirk Lazarus Oscar Campaign
DreamWorks has launched a Best Supporting Actor campaign for Kirk Lazarus, the character portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. in the summer comedy Tropic Thunder. The studio is creatively campaigning for Downey Jr. to get the Best Supporting Actor nomination by pretending to push for his character through a viral web marketing initiative. In the satirical film, Downey Jr. plays an actor comically dedicated to his craft. DreamWorks is utilizing the tagline, "Choose The Dude, Playing A Dude, Disguised as Another Dude." Downey was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for 1992's Chaplin, in which he played silent film star Charlie Chaplin.
