Bettie Page Passes Away
After suffering a heart attack and subsequently being placed on life support, 1950s pin-up model Bettie Page has died. Page was 85-years-old when she passed away in Los Angeles late last week. Page never regained consciousness after falling into a post-heart attack coma.Page's agent Mark Roesler said, "She captured the imagination of a generation of men and women with her free spirit and unabashed sensuality. She is the embodiment of beauty." Additionally, Hugh Hefner offered the following statement, saying, "I think that she was a remarkable lady, an iconic figure in pop culture who influenced sexuality, taste in fashion, someone who had a tremendous impact on our society. She was a very dear person." A film about Page's life, The Notorious Bettie Page, was released in 2005.
The cycle of life continues, however, as 40-year-old actress Naomi Watts and longtime boyfriend Liev Schreiber welcomed another son on Saturday, December 13. The baby boy is named Samuel Kai and he joins brother Alexander, who was born in July 2007.
Also, 29-year-old Dakota Culkin, the sister of actors Macaulay Culkin and Kieran Culkin, was killed last week when she stepped in front of a moving car in West Los Angeles. She died from massive head injuries suffered during the incident, which is not under criminal investigation. Officers say the driver tried to help Culkin and that the motorist was not drunk and was adhering to driving rules. A spokeswoman for Macaulay Culkin said that it was a "terrible, tragic accident" and issued no further comment.
