Alvin and the Chipmunks Sequel Taking Shape
Director Betty Thomas of John Tucker Must Die fame has signed on to direct the Alvin and the Chipmunks sequel, titled Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Squeakuel. The original, which starred Jason Lee and mixed live-action and CGI animation, was a sleeper hit in 2007. Fox 2000 and Regency will release the film.Plot details have not been revealed, but the sequel will feature the singing Chipmunks' female counterparts, known as the Chipettes. Justin Long will reprise his voice role as Alvin, while Jesse McCartney and Matthew Gray Gubler will return to their voice roles as Theodore and Simon, respectively. It has not been revealed if Lee will step back into his role as Dave, the Chipmunks' caretaker. Script writers will be chosen shortly.
