Paramount to reboot Tom Clancy franchise

    Jack Ryan Returns

Paramount is rebooting a franchise around the famed literary and screen character, Jack Ryan, an intelligence analyst who was created by author Tom Clancy. The character was the center of The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger and was played by Alec Baldwin and Harrison Ford, respectively. Ryan was played by Ben Affleck in 2002's semi-prequel, The Sum of All Fears, which was the last time the popular character appeared on the big screen.

Screenwriter Hossein Amini has been hired to write the script for the next film. Sam Raimi had previously been attached to direct, but his packed schedule has caused him to bow out of directorial contention. This film and its plot will not be adapted from any of Clancy's novels in favor of a completely original story. Producers will also seek out a new, young actor to step into Ryan's sensible shoes.
