The Terminator, Deliverance Selected For National Film Registry
The Library of Congress has selected 25 new titles for inclusion in its National Film Registry. Among the films chosen this year were The Terminator, Deliverance, Sergeant York, The Asphalt Jungle, A Face in the Crowd and Water and Power. The National Film Registry is a film preservation initiative that is designed to ensure that culturally, historially or aesthetically important films are preserved for posterity. This year's selections range from films shot in the 1920s all the way through the 1980s. The Registry was established in 1989 and this year's selections bring the Registry's total to 500 films overall. The Registry is also meant to be an educational tool for students and to help the country remember the diversity of its film history and heritage.
