Bhutto Assassination Leads to Rap Single
YouTube and a state-run television station have both started airing "I Would Take the Pain Away," a montage of clips and photographs in tribute to Pakistan's former prime minister, Benazir Bhutto. (She was assassinated in a suicide bomb/gun attack in December of 2007.)"I Would Take the Pain Away" features a rap song by Bhutto's oldest daughter, 18-year-old Bakhtawar. Her English-speaking rhymes include "My mom was murdered. I don't even comprehend. Was it worth dying for? I'm walking through screened doors."
According to a Reuters interview with Information Minister Sherry Rehman, "It's a tribute of a grieving daughter to her iconic and loving mother." While music is a hobby of Bakhtawar's, she is currently pursuing other studies at Britain's Edinburgh University.
