Monsters Vs. Aliens Spot to Air During Super Bowl

DreamWorks Animation will air a 90-second spot of the forthcoming 3-D film Monsters Vs. Aliens during the Super Bowl. The film is due in theaters on March 27, while the Super Bowl airs on February 1. The spot will be 3-D and will premiere a 3-D movie trailer for the film and will feature cross-pollination of Monsters Vs. Aliens characters and the SoBe lizards, dancing alongside current NFL stars.

The ad spot, which includes a giveaway of 125 million pairs of 3-D glasses, will cost the company tens of millions of dollars in what could be one of the biggest advertisement events in history! The glasses will be given away at 28,000 retail locales, as part of Pepsi/SoBe Lifewater displays, as Pepsi is a marketing partner of DreamWorks. Consumers can call 1-800-646-2904 in order to obtain a pair if the displays they come across are out of glasses.

Super Bowl advertising is the most expensive of the year, with a single ad costing approximately $3 million. Monsters Vs. Aliens features Reese Witherspoon, Hugh Laurie, Kiefer Sutherland, Stephen Colbert and Seth Rogen in the voice cast and the story follows Susan Murphy, who is hit by a meteor full of outerspace gunk on her wedding day, which causes her to grow 49 feet, 11 inches tall. She is captured by the government and renamed Ginormica and placed in confinement with a group of monsters. She eventually does battle with aliens who ambush earth.
