Spike Lee Revisits WWII
Spike Lee is revisiting World War II territory yet again. After directing last fall's WWII drama Miracle at St. Anna, Lee has acquired the rights to Now the Hell Will Start, a true story about Herman Perry, an African-American soldier who was stationed in Southeast Asia and eventually shot another officer and retreated into the Indo-Burmese wilderness. While in the wild, Perry joined a group of headhunting Nagas. Perry even married into the tribe. He was the source of an intense military manhunt for his actions and was caught twice, but escaped both times. Once captured, was subsequently executed by hanging in March of 1945.The book was written by Brendan Koerner and was issued last summer via Penguin Press and was well-received as as an eye-opening account of a little-known World War II event.
