Billboad.com has confirmed Daft Punk's involvement in the score of TR2N, the long-awaited sequel to the sci-fi classic Tron. While the film itself is currently in production, Disney Pictures has slated it for a 2011 release.

Daft Punk hasn't released a new studio record since 2005's Human After All. Two years ago, one-half of the duo, Thomas Bangalter, alluded to fresh material, telling Billboard, "The cool thing is that we're always trying to do something that hasn't been done, or ultimately, that we aren't doing ourselves yet. It is challenging to get back in the studio and work with ideas we haven't expressed before. Some ideas take time, but some just take a few weeks, so we'll see."

Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo have been balancing their time between Paris and Los Angeles, where they recently opened a new recording studio with TR2N in mind. Tron's original score was tracked by Wendy Carlos, the electronic musician best known for her Moog-highlighting Switched On Bach LP.
