Jimmy Chamberlin Leaves the Smashing Pumpkins
Billy Corgan announced the seemingly sudden departure of Smashing Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlin on Sunday, adding that the frontman "will continue to write and record as Smashing Pumpkins with plans to head into the studio this spring." No further explanation was given as to whether Chamberlin quit or was kicked out (just like the 1996 incident where he was ousted after a heroin overdose). At this point, Corgan is the only original Smashing Pumpkins member left in the band. That said, Chamberlin has played on every Pumpkins LP but the synth-laced Adore album.
