DJ Drama, Lil Wayne Lawsuit Gets Explained in E-mail
Makin Moves Entertainment sent an E-mail statement to members of the music industry yesterday, explaining the lawsuit filed against the company and DJ Drama on February 18. Cash Money Records is apparently upset about the unapproved use of Lil Wayne’s music in projects for BCD Music Group, an independent distro company based in Texas. Cash Money’s lawyer, Candace Carponter, has said that Makin Moves had the right to put together mixtapes using Wayne’s Dedication 2 collaboration with DJ Drama but the act of selling Dedication-related discs in retail outletswith Wayne’s image and likenesswas an alleged illegal act.Speaking to MTV News via E-mail, Drama explained, “The accusations against me are misplaced. This is not a case of Lil Wayne vs. DJ Drama. Me and Wayne are good. I am confident that this matter will be resolved quickly without harming the relationships between myself, Wayne and Cash Money Records. However, due to the ongoing nature of this litigation I do not wish to make any further comments.”
"BCD claimed the right to sell the music," Carponter added. "So we named them in complaints and they have 30 days to answer the charges, based on when they receive the papers."
