Steve Reich Scoops Up Pulitzer Prize

This year's Pulitzer Prize for Music has gone to Steve Reich, in honor of the "Double Sextet" piece that was first performed by Eighth Blackbird in April of last year. According to the Pulitzer's judges, the composition is "a major work that displays an ability to channel an initial burst of energy into a large scale musical event, built with masterful control and consistently intriguing to the ear."

While "Double Sextet" is not available on CD yet, Eighth Blackbird plans on tracking the song for Reich's label, Nonesuch Records, this September.
