    Guitar legend Les Paul passed away today (August 13, 2009) due to complications of severe pneumonia in White Plains, New York. He was 94-years-old.

    Paul was nothing less than a musical wizard and one of the most beloved figures among musicians the world over. He made innovations with both the electric guitar and studio recording devices that have made him crucial to every genre of music and every musician under the sun.

    His obsession with electronics also led to the pioneering of multitrack recording and tape delay, crucial studio techniques to this day, and the backbone of what became the rock ‘n roll era. He also invented the solid-body guitar, the most-famous of which pays tribute to him every day…the Gibson Les Paul.

    Jimi Hendrix to Slash. He also shared the stage with Fred Waring, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, the Andrews Sisters and The Les Paul Trio. With his wife Mary Ford, he penned hits including "How High the Moon" and "Vaya Con Dios."

    Paul's obsession with electronics also led to the pioneering of multitrack recording and tape delay, crucial studio techniques to this day.
