On their self-titled debut single, the Forty-Fives reflect on a point in rock & roll history when it was about to blossom into a threat against American youth. There's a hybrid of Sun Records rockabilly with a raw energy that suggests the Sonics and the Kinks. With their addition of Chuck Berry guitar solos and a gruff, punk upbringing, however, the Forty-Fives give off a low-down, dirty feeling of ruckus-filled angst. ~ Mike DaRonco, All Music Guide
