Double Shot: Punk is an amazing release for one reason. Black Flag (and the Stooges, Richard Hell, Gang of Four, X) on K-Tel! No one who grew up with K-Tel collections in the '70s could ever have imagined it. The disc is a collection of 24 punk rock (and near-punk rock) songs from the '70s, '80s, '90s, and 2000s. It probably serves best as a history lesson to fans of the more modern punk sounds of MXPX, the Ataris and Lagwagon, letting them know that bands like Black Flag and the Stooges were there first and inspired their favorite bands. It is a little less likely that fans of '70s and '80s punk bands will feel any connection with the current bands, but you never know, maybe it will open their ears to some new sounds. Either way the collection, while musically pleasing, will probably fail to reach either audience. K-Tel probably should have split the eras into two entities and put out discs representing each. ~ Tim Sendra, All Music Guide
