    All Music Guide Review

Like Rock Hits of the 60's -- another cheap-looking compilation from Sony Special Products with a short running time -- Rock Hits of the 70's serves up a decent grab-bag selection of hits for those who are on a tight budget. Over 30 years after release, most of these songs continue to be played on radio stations across the U.S. In fact, the sequence on the disc -- including a patch that runs from Santana's "Black Magic Woman" to Mott the Hoople's "All the Young Dudes" to Electric Light Orchestra's "Do Ya" to Mountain's "Mississippi Queen" -- could have been directly lifted from the playlist of any given hard rock station that tends not to play much of anything released after 1979. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
