Hetch Hetchy singer Lynda L. Limner is actually Lynda Stipe, the onetime-vocalist of Oh-OK and sister of R.E.M.'s Michael. Like her sibling, Limner has a earthy, thick voice which she uses to great advantage on Swollen, which musically recalls the ethereal atmospherics of the Cocteau Twins and Hugo Largo (three members of which are listed in the production credits). The songs draw on a number of traditions and motifs -- British folk music in "Commonplace," Indian ragas in "Perfect Puzzle," even goth on "Retsina." ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
