All Music Guide Review

Having signed to U.K. semi-indie Dedicated, Cassidy celebrated with another strong EP release, Beaujolais. With elegant artwork partially consisting of song lyrics matched by another collection of fine songs, Beaujolais is a fine taster for anyone interested in discovering the band, while longtime fans will be equally happy. Leadoff track "Passion is the Only Fruit" eventually surfaced on The Honeymoon Suite a year later; with a classic Cassidy combination of acoustic guitar and fine vocals matched by a great arrangement including harmonica courtesy of bandmate Pendle, it's another Butterfly Child standout. Special points go to this love lyric: "Is this a lie, I hear you cry? It wasn't to Cleopatra and that other guy." "Half a Crown" has a nice, breezy '60s French pop feel to it without sounding specifically like it, just enough swing and sass. "Curtain Call" moves with a slow but attractive pace, while "One More Pull on the Heart Strings" is a Child highpoint, a dramatic, building number that blends delicacy and implied force perfectly. An extensive midsection with just Cassidy and the softest of guitar strums leads into a lengthy, marvelous full-band coda. ~ Ned Raggett, All Music Guide
