This sampler, put out by Chicago's WLUW (the student radio station of Loyola University), was lovingly put together by local music guru Jed James and features some of that city's prime local talent from the year 2000. Split-Habit start off the record right with the awesome riff of "No Vacancy," and are followed directly by the Jesus Lizard-like thrash of Moreno and the ultra-catchy "Silvercloud" by '80s revivalists the Cells. Other highlights include the saccharine "Never Gonna Get Up" by Light FM and the stoner rock glory of Land of the El Camino's "Mech Man." While there are a few misses, overall this compilation proves why Chicago was given "best local music scene of 2000" honors by Spin magazine. ~ Ari Wiznitzer, All Music Guide
