The 15th volume in Force Inc's long-running Rauschen series features Californian DJ/producer Jasper attempting to sum up the state of computer-crafted techno circa late 2000. Jasper functions as a fitting DJ, due not only to his seamless mixing skills but more so to his esteemed role as the man behind the Cytrax label -- arguably the leading California glitch techno label -- in addition to his role as a producer. He mines the catalogs of Force Inc, Force Tracks, and Mille Plateaux to find 25 tracks for his set, including many of this particular techno style's best producers: Sutekh, Stewart Walker, and Twerk, among others. Furthermore, amid all the clicking- and cutting-style beats, Jasper manages to seam the tracks together at a fairly rapid pace, without drawing barely any attention to his transitions. While a mix such as this may not ever cross over into populist clubs or perhaps even outlive its much-hyped status as yet another techno trend -- following in the footsteps of hard, minimal, experimental, acid, and countless other techno styles -- it does stand on its own, with or without the accompanying hype, as a stunning DJ mix, also proving that this music can be formatted to suit the dancefloor. ~ Jason Birchmeier, All Music Guide
