Die-hard fans of the electro-pop Detroit duo Le Car will foam over this collection, and those not familiar will be properly introduced with Auto-biography. Jack Pulvine (of now defunct Monoplaza Records) and Adam Lee Miller (half of Adult and the Ersatz Audio label) released five 12''s (including their remix album) as Le Car to date. Auto-biography is a perfect journal of Le Car's take on the relationship between man and music machine. Surprisingly, the CD is the first full-length from the duet and features tracks from the out of print Automatic mini-LP on Craft Records, a division of the Vienna based Sabotage Communications. Some never released tracks and edits in addition to a remix by G.D.Luxxe rounds out the CD nicely. To the new listener, Le Car functions as a surface audio reminder of the electronic poppy background music used in breakdancing films from the '80s. With a closer listen, Pulvine and Miller's music becomes simplistic and complicated and the devoted relationship with their music and gear is heard. Though this music is clearly and intentionally mechanical, the human presence cannot be denied. While striving to fill dance floors is the goal for many electronic acts and essential to the industry balance, so are the acts that redefine and push boundaries by more simplistic and quieter means. Le Car's mechanical sound is evened out with a subtle and lurking presence of humor. The CD's hidden track is a perfect example, but divulging the reason would be similar to giving away the surprise ending to an incredible film. Auto-biography embodies precise, simplistic, and creative production, while keeping it comprehensible and simultaneously challenging. ~ Diana Potts, All Music Guide
