    All Music Guide Review

EMI-Capitol Music's Hidden Treasures contains ten relative obscurities and cult classics from the vaults of EMI Records. A handful of these songs are familiar, at least to fans of alternative rock and college rock: Mazzy Star's "Fade Into You," Kate Bush's "Running up That Hill," Wall of Voodoo's "Mexican Radio," and Timbuk 3's "The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades" are all staples of modern rock radio. But that doesn't devalue the collection, since it's not only nice to get these all on one disc, but there are some really cool cuts like Roachford's modern-day soul stomper "Cuddly Toy (Feel for Me)," Red Rider's anthemic rocker "Lunatic Fringe," Far Corporation's bizarre cover of Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven," Living in a Box's late-'80s dance-pop signature tune "Living in a Box," and Industry's pulsating new wave electro-dance protest cut "State of the Nation." This might cover a lot of stylistic territory, but in that sense, it gives an idea of how much radio changed from 1981 to 1993, and, in doing so, it's an interesting and enjoyable collection. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
